The project:
I built a hidden bookshelf door that leads into the kids' media room using a solid-core door and materials from Bunnings. The project was both challenging and rewarding, as I had to ensure the bookshelf was strong, functional, and blended in with the surrounding wall. The finished result created a fun hidden entrance that the kids loved while adding a unique feature to the home.
- Materials:
For the door I got a second solid core door, super heavy. To take the weight also used gates hinges instead of normal door hinges as I was concerned it would sag
For the bookshelf frame i just used pine moulding and it did the job fine..

I used liquid nails and long screws to attack it to the door. . Painted the lot and put a black edge line around thr whole door so it blended and looked just like a shelf.
I then used a magnetic catch for when its opened up.
For the photo frames I used mainly clear liquid nails so the ly dont fall off when opening and shutting
- Tools:
I used my ozito drop saw for the cutting, a pencils and lot of measurement checks. my impact driver for the long screws. I also used my hammer drill for the masonary. Paint and painting accessories. Chisel to remove bsxk edge for magnet catch.
- Step 1:
Measure up, give door light sanding fit door and attach.
- Step 2:
Make the frame for the book frame. Outside edge only. Attach frame to opposite side with liquid nails and long screws, trst with books and make sure the door opens and closes as thickness may be an issue.
- Step 3:
Add shelves with long screws. Test heights for frames and books.
- Step 4:
Add Edging and paint edges and hidden book shelf. Stuck with liquid nails.
- Step 5:
ATTACH books and photo frames and magnetic catch on back
