Media wall with shiplap boards

The project:

I built a media wall incorporating and electric fireplace. I built a base frame to lift the fireplace off floor level and cladded it in shiplap. I used Vis ash timber for the side shelves and mantle. I also built a hidden drawer behind theantle for storage.

- Materials:

90 X 40 treated pine framing timber

Ship lap boards

Timber screws

Liquid nails

25 X 25 plastic right angle

Cabots clear polyurethane

- Tools:

Circular saw

Drop saw

Drill driver

Multipurpose tool

Square

Level

Measuring tape

Orbital sander

- Step 1:

Measure & mark out design with tape on the wall. Cut out skirting board & cornice.

Build base frame to hold electric fireplace.

- Step 2:

Mount fireplace on base frame. Build frame above fireplace and on the ceiling.

- Step 3:

Mount tv bracket in the desire location & build frame for underneath the tv, leaving space for the hidden drawer.

- Step 4:

Finish framing around the tv.

- Step 5:

Clad the frame in shiplap on front & slides including in behind the tv.

- Step 6:

Build the drawer & install the drawer slides.

- Step 7:

Trim the corners with plastic right angle & paint. Bolt finished mantle to face of the drawer

You’ve done a great job turning your media wall into a real feature, with the shiplap creating some depth and the hidden drawer and electric fireplace making it functional.

The colour combination, with the blue colour contrasting with the timber mantle and shelves looks great too. It gives the whole media wall a really warm, finished look.
