The project:
I love updating these little pot cupboards, they have so much character and charm. I picked up this one for free on FB Marketplace and wanted to bring it back to life!

Cabot's water-based stain and varnish
Cabot's Cabothane clear
BIN Shellac primer

- Step 1:
I started by removing the handle, door and back plate, then used an orbital sander to remove the existing stain/varnish - working up from 100 to 250 grit sandpaper.
To cut out the door insert and reshape the door frame I used a jigsaw, before sanding the edges smooth with an orbital sander.
- Step 2:
To replace the damaged back I used an Easycraft VJ panel offcut, which I cut to size using a jigsaw, sanding the edges smooth.
I cleaned the piece thoroughly before applying primer/paint to the interior and stain/varnish to the exterior with a 4mm nap roller. Once dry I attached the new Easycraft backing with brad nails.
- Step 3:
For the door front I attached wire mesh to the inside with an Ozito staple gun, before refastening the original handle, which I cleaned and reused.
And here is the final result!
