The project:
fully insulated and lined out dog kennel! My dogs old kennel was looking a bit shabby and was getting on a bit so I decided I’d build one to last for years to come!.
- Materials:
I built the framework from galvanised pipe and SHS steel, the walls were upcycled tin from a property I was doing a job at. I filled the walls with Fletcher insulation Batts, and then lined them with 5mm plywood sheets and mdf. I used marine ply on the floor on top of the framework underneath. And also insulated the roof with a foil lined insulation.
- Tools:
empire rafter square, which I use daily!.
cutting wheels and flap disk purchased from Bunnings, I believe makita branded. Lufkin nite eye tape measure. And a whole assortment of screwdriver bits and pieces all purchased from Bunnings!
- Step 1:
I fabricated the steel framework for the kennel walls, roof, floor, and veranda posts.
- Step 2:
I started sheeting the framework with the recycled roofing iron, on the walls of the kennel.
- Step 3:
I loaded the kennel on my Ute and took it around the back of the shed to my dogs pen, and miraculously got it on the Ute and off again by myself without causing any damage lol.
- Step 4:
once I had the kennel in the pen, I layed it down on the 20mm FCR pad that I had made in preparation and leveled it all up!
- Step 5:
once the kennel was in place, I installed the floor, insulated it, lined out the interior walls and roof, and screwed everything off, then cut out the hole for the window, which is a legitimate glass window, and installed the flashings on the outside!.
- Step 6:
then after the kennel was finished I created a rock retaining wall and added some decorative rocks around it, as well as some pinebark.
