The project:
The foyer of our theatre room was lacking pizazz so I made a hall table and added acoustic panels to the alcove. I also made a pot stand to match in.
- Materials:
SpecRite 2700 x 600 x 21mm Walnut Timber Acoustic PanelDAR Tasmanian Oak - variety of sizes
- Tools:
Biscuit joiner, pedestal drill, Cordless drill, twist bit, screwdriver bit, jigsaw, sash clamps, belt sander, radial arm saw, table saw, router, paint brush.
- Step 1:
Hall table - cut timber to size (docked to length on radial arm and table saws), biscuit joined the material for the top and the carcass. Drawers glued and screwed. All timber sanded, stained with black Japan and lacquered.
- Step 2:
Pot holder - timber cut to size, each part glued and clamped together. Small housing cut into each mid rail to allow overlap of each other. All timber sanded, stained with black Japan and lacquered.
- Step 3:
Panelling- Panels cut to length (radial arm saw) and outside panels cut to width on table saw to ensure symmetry. Studs located (only 1 stud per panel), 50mm screws used to fix panel in place, wall mates also used to ensure adequate fixing. Black spot stickers used to cover screw heads.
- Step 4:
Decorating - Mirror and plants added.
