Circular fire pit area using brick and Ironstone

The project:

I built a fire pit area in our backyard to enjoy with my family and friends.

This project took me over a year to complete.

I learnt a lot and made a lot of mistakes and it’s not perfect but I’m bloody proud of it.

- Materials:

Concrete bags

Gp cement

Yellow brickies sand

White brickies sand

River paving sand

Sydney sand

Road base

Geo fabric

Slotted Drainage pipe

Trench mesh

Bricks

recycled bricks

ironstone rocks

- Tools:

Shovel

Mattock

Wheelbarrow

Trowel

Hoe

Tape measure

Lump hammer

Levels

Brick grabs

Broom/brush

- Step 1:

After an idea, a quick sketch I chose a spot in the back yard to put the fire pit and began to dig

- Step 2:

and dig some more

- Step 3:

poured the footing and began to lay some

Bricks

- Step 4:

I backfilled the wall with drainage.

- Step 5:

I Dug and poured another footing to complete the circle

- Step 6:

Laid more bricks to complete the circle

- Step 7:

I faced the brickwork with ironstone rocks.

- Step 8:

Capped the circle with recycled bricks

Then it rained and I discovered I built a water feature

- Step 9:

paved the rest of the area with half bricks in a cicle pattern

- Step 10:

welded up a fire ring out of recycled excavator tracks and job complete. I have since planted out behind the fire pit and built some stairs down to it

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

Do you happen to be a structural landscaper, bricklayer or stone mason by trade? Because if not, you could certainly do it for a living. This is a seriously impressive build and looks very professionally finished.

The brick structure looks super strong and the iron stone facing looks absolutely brilliant. It looks like a wonderful spot to sit with family and friends. I hope it is getting a workout this winter.
