The project:
I installed an outdoor kitchen, to our new home. It included a BBQ, rangehood, side burner, sink, and bar fridge. I installed Castellated Quickboard on the surrounding walls and eaves, with down lights.
Initially, the hole for the rangehood was needed to measure everything else from.
All wall fittings and Castellated Quickboard was sourced from Bunnings.

- Step 1:
Install the outdoor kitchen, including BBQ, sink with plumbing, side burner, and bar fridge.
- Step 2:
Following the kitchen install, I cut a hole into the eave, for a rangehood install.
- Step 3:
I then attached Castellated Quickboard to the right side, and eaves, to follow the shape of the rangehood. I cut a mitre(45 degree angle) to the vertical board, joining the small sections under the eave. This created a seamless join. This side was installed first, as electricians needed measurements for down lights and a powerpoint. At the same time I attached lengths of laminated Tilling Smartframe beam onto the wall, to pack out the rangehood, while adding a strong point of attachment for the bracket which the rangehood will hang from.
- Step 4:
Next I installed the Quickboard to the left side of where the rangehood will be installed. Every measurement at this time was crucial, as the Quickboard was to frame the rangehood once installed, having the edge trims visible. Measurements had to include the edge trims, which weren’t attached at this time.
- Step 5:
Next step was to attach a piece of structural plywood to the brick wall, using adhesive and 32mm countersink masonry screws. This is to pack out the 19mm depth from the brick wall, to the finished depth of the Quickboard.
- Step 6:
I then attached a 1.6mm sheet of 304 stainless steel for the splashback, using adhesive. This had the steel sheet finish flush with the Quickboard, a surprisingly ideal finish without any adjustments.
- Step 7:
The hardest task of installing the rangehood took 3 lads, two lifting, while I guided it up into the void. This task was quite awkward, as the rangehood weighs 75 kilograms, and I left only 5mm each side, and front, for a snug fit.
- Step 8:
The edging was last to go on, creating the perfect, neat finish to the Castellated Quickboard. I also attached lengths of black aluminium angle to cover the gaps between the rangehood and the cut edge of the gyprock, and white aluminium angle for gaps on the ceiling. These lengths of aluminium angle created an extremely neat finish once attached with adhesive.
