The project:
Before the renovation, the laundry was a dated, impractical space with very limited functionality. It featured only a small freestanding laundry tub and a narrow benchtop, offering no built-in storage or usable workspace. The bare concrete floor, left over from when the area served as a garage, gave the room an unfinished, industrial appearance. We did a complete strip-out to a create cleaner and more functional laundry, all with Bunnings Kaboodle and in-store products. The In House design staff put together the required sizing of all products needed to fit the space - they were amazing and spot on with measurements.

- Step 1:
The renovation began with a complete strip-out of the existing laundry, removing all outdated fixtures and fittings to create a blank canvas for the new design. The original space was basic and lacked both functionality and storage, consisting of a single freestanding laundry tub with a small shelf, a narrow benchtop, makeshift freestanding shelving, and an old laundry basket. With no integrated cabinetry or purpose-built storage, the room offered limited workspace and poor organisation. Removing these elements provided the opportunity to completely reimagine the laundry as a modern, highly functional space designed to maximise storage, efficiency, and everyday practicality. The bare concrete floor, left over from when the area served as a garage, gave the room an unfinished, industrial appearance.
- Step 2:
Following careful planning and preparation, the Kaboodle cabinetry was assembled and installed in accordance with the final layout, ensuring each cabinet was accurately positioned to maximise both functionality and available space. Particular attention was given to achieving a practical workflow, with the cabinetry designed to provide generous storage while maintaining a clean, streamlined appearance.
An additional feature incorporated into the design was the Kaboodle double 35-litre pull-out laundry hamper, a recommendation from the Bunnings in-house design team. This proved to be an excellent enhancement, offering a discreet and convenient solution for sorting laundry while keeping dirty clothes neatly concealed. The integrated hamper not only improves the day-to-day functionality of the space but also contributes to the organised, clutter-free aesthetic of the finished laundry.
- Step 3:
Each stage of the Kaboodle cabinetry installation was carefully planned and executed, with the layout methodically checked before assembly to ensure all measurements and cabinet positions were accurate. This meticulous approach minimised the need for remeasuring or rework, resulting in a more efficient installation process and a precise fit throughout the laundry.
- Step 4:
With the cabinetry installed, the next stage involved completing the wall finishes. The splashback was installed and the walls were prepared and painted, creating a clean, cohesive backdrop for the remaining fixtures. Once these finishes were complete, the custom Kaboodle 38 x 901-1200mm Calcutta Gloss benchtop was fitted, followed by the installation of the Blanco double-bowl sink and coordinating sinkware, doors and handles, bringing both functionality and a refined finish to the laundry.
- Step 5:
The cabinetry was finished with a Kaboodle corner cabinet, an addition recommended by the Bunnings in-house design team to maximise the available space. Incorporating this otherwise underutilised corner created valuable extra storage without compromising the layout or accessibility of the laundry. In everyday use, the additional cupboard space has proven to be an excellent design decision, providing convenient storage for cleaning supplies, laundry essentials, and other household items while contributing to a clean, uncluttered finish.
- Step 6:
To complete the renovation, a decorative feature light was installed in the centre of the room, adding a touch of elegance and personality to the space. While the laundry was designed with functionality and practicality in mind, the statement light introduced a subtle sense of luxury, proving that even a hardworking utility room can have a little glamour. It also happened to be a finishing touch that was particularly appreciated by my wife.
