Country-style granny flat in shed

The project:

building a country style ganny flat in a shed for myself and partner to live in. Started in February 2026 and we are at the painting stage. The kaboodle kitchen from Bunnings fit amazing with the country theme.

- Materials:

kaboodle kitchen

Earth wool

Gyprock

Top hat

Gyprock plaster

Dulux paint

Yellow tongue flooring

VJ wood sheets

H4 90x45 6m timber

Arlec lights/ power points

And lots of small things such as screws and nails

- Tools:

dry wall sander

Ladders

Plastering tools

Ryobi drop saw, drill, impact driver, angle grinder and jigsaw

Hammer

Lights

- Step 1:

framing the place with timber at 450mm spacing

Insulate with earth wool R6.0

Gyprock with 1350mm by 6m wall sheets

Patched nail holes and jointing tape for gyprock joins “setting”

Top coated all gyprock

Sanded the plaster

Cut holes for power points and ran cable for power

Next step is painting

Turning a shed into a warm, country-style granny flat is a huge undertaking, and it's amazing to see how far you've come. The Kaboodle kitchen suits the style beautifully, adding both charm and practicality, while the quality of the work throughout shows real dedication and craftsmanship.

Building your own home together is something to be incredibly proud of, and even at the painting stage it's easy to see this will become a welcoming, comfortable space filled with character.
