How to attach MDF to ceiling to conceal gap?

Hi, I'm hoping for some advice on how to attach MDF to cover the gap between the ceiling and the top of the wardrobe. The edges of the wall have a curved cornice which is making it hard to decide how to cut the right shape and attach it to the ceiling. Picture attached. The blue shape is where the MDF needs to go.

Hi @jottle,

The best way to cover this section would be to build a bulkhead from 70x35 framing timber, then attach it to the ceiling and the top of the wardrobe. Your MDF could then be attached to that bulkhead. A bulkhead follows the same principles as a timber wall frame, so you can check out

To cut the cornice, you can use a simple jab saw, or a multitool, you'll just want to make sure the cuts are plumb, square and the front is in line with the front of the wardrobe. You can check this quite easily by holding a spirit level against the front of the wardrobe, then marking the top and bottom of the cornice at the plumb points. You can then mark a second line for the back of the cut, taking into account the thickness of the framing and the MDF.

After cutting the cornice, you can attach your bulkhead to the ceiling and wardrobe, then attach your MDF to the frame. Once in place, seal up the seams where the MDF comes into contact with the walls, ceiling and cornice, then paint.
