Crazy pave feature wall using Travertine tiles

The project:

We created a feature wall for our living room by smashing tiles into pieces and freehand placing them to create a unique pattern.

- Step 1:

Clean the wall

- Step 2:

Smash tiles into smaller pieces and sort into sizes

- Step 3:

Glue tiles in tessellating pattern starting from a corner. Use spacers to maintain gaps.

- Step 4:

Mix grout in Bucket and apply to gaps with float.

- Step 5:

Use a clean wet Sponge to wipe away excess grout from edges of the tiles.

This looks fantastic. The freehand layout gives it such a unique, organic look, and the mid-grey grout works really well with the travertine tones.

I like that you’ve broken the process down into simple steps too. Starting from a corner and sorting the tile pieces by size sounds like a great tip for keeping the pattern manageable as you go.
