The project:
This is a coffee table I built for the living room. It consists of modern style legs which are very sturdy due to their design. The top is made from many peices of timber cut at 45 degree angles and placed together to form a X shape pattern. It is finished off with a clear vanish.
- Materials:
I used mainly off cuts and scrap peices of timber for the project bringing them back to life to become part of the project. The top consist of 64 x 19 pine which sits on a 6mm mdf board. The frame has 90 x 19 pine as the base for the top and the legs are made from 42x19 pine.
- Tools:
I used a makita impact driver and drill. Makita circular saw. Makita router and a hammer, square and tape measure
- Step 1:
first I drew up a plan of dimensions and what cuts I would need for the table. I then cut everything I needed for the legs and frame.
- Step 2:
With the 42x19 timber I then holes for the dowels and glued the top and bottom plates onto the uprights for the legs.
- Step 3:
after that I screwed another piece of 42 x 19 to the top of the legs and created 3 half lapping joints with the horizontal frame pieces
- Step 4:
I then cut The 64x19 and worked out a pattern I was happy with for the top and glued it all together including the edging.
- Step 5:
after that there was a lot of sanding to ensure a smooth finish
- Step 6:
finally I applied a clear coat of vanish to protect the table and add some shine
