The project:
When we bought our home we had a vision of dark colours, different textures and to create a classy, moody feel. Our kitchen was functional but lacked the wow we were looking for so we gave it a facelift to achieve our vibe!
- Materials:
Vinyl wrap to all cupboard doors and drawer in Matt black and timber grain, Tiles for splash back, timber and brackets for our shelves, timber panel boards for breakfast bar, pendant light, grout, tile glue, corking silicone , cement sheeting, dulux black ace paint for walls, black power points and switches
- Tools:
grinder for cutting tiles, bench saw for timber shelves and breakfast bar, contact glue, vinyl wrap in Matt black and timber look. Drill, hammer, level, roller and cutting brushes, trowel, spirit level, vinyl cutter
- Step 1:
pulled all tiles off the splash back and replaced cement sheeting.
- Step 2:
once cement sheeting applied we started our first tiling job 🤪 grouted, cleaned and corked.
- Step 3:
walls painted in dulux black ace and cut to size our shelving for above the bench. We used SpecRite brown acacia panels and black brackets from bunnings.
- Step 4:
our bench lacked the depth to sit at so we made a timber waterfall breakfast bar out of the same SpecRite brown acacia timber panels from Bunnings. We used sikaflex to bond the top onto the original bench and the backing. The side were cut into the skirting board and screed into the sides. Coloured putty to match timber was used to fill any screw holes (minimal used as a tight fit)
- Step 5:
the most challenging part…… we removed the vinyl wrap on the kitchen cupboards and doors and cleaned them all down. We cut the vinyl sheets to size used contact glue and a hair dryer to reverse each cupboard and drawer!! This took us a few long hours every weekend and a lot of patience but the result is Amazing!!!
- Step 6:
still need to replace the sink and tap to black, in the next budget…..
