I have a Hills Hoist that fold down. I can't raise it to the locking positions. The hoist is approximately 6 years old. The smaller section is able to be locked into position.
How do I get the larger section to lock in position?

One would think that if it has been working fine for six years and has only just developed this issue, it's likely that the locking mechanism for the larger section is no longer engaging properly.
As you mentioned, the frame is normally locked and unlocked by lifting it slightly above its finished height. If the locking mechanism isn't clicking into place when you raise the larger section, I'd start by inspecting it for any obvious signs of damage or excessive wear. It's also worth giving the mechanism a good clean, as dirt, rust or debris can stop it from operating correctly. If that doesn't resolve the problem, could you let us know the exact model of your Hills Hoist, or post a few photos of the locking mechanism? It would also be helpful to include close-up images of any parts that you suspect might be broken or worn.
