The project:
Completely gutted and upgraded kitchen in planned stages to minimise impact of not having a functioning kitchen, using base white Kaboodle cabinets, that I sanded all back doors and draws, then repainted to get the colour option I wanted. All 4 benchtops were fabricated from jarrah boards, that I jointed and glued. Sanded to 400 grit and finished with Scandinavian oil in non-food prep areas and paraffin oil and for food prep benches. All work was completed myself, apart from plumbing, electrical and one-piece glass splashback.
- Materials:
Kaboodle base cabinets, Blanco 11/4 Silgranit Sink Zia 6s, Mondella mixer tap, Jarrah Boards (majority used however were recycled), Clear fiberglass resin and hardner, Sandpaper, Scandanavian oil, Primer, Paint and clear coat.
- Tools:
Thicknesser, corded circular saw, hand saw, pipe clamps, F clamps, router, battery drill, corded hammer drill, Chisels (cold and wood), pinch bar and hand screwdrivers.
- Step 1:
Had new rangehood installed in existing location, then cut out cabinets surrounding gas cooktop. Had gas disconnected, power redirected from double wall oven and new induction cooktop installed, so as to not be without cooking function.
- Step 2:
Prefabricated all of the benchtops, using recyled jarrah, as well as new boards for bunnings to make up width in non-visible areas. Boards were resin filled, sanded to 40o grit and oil finished.
- Step 3:
Removed old double wall oven and custom made wall a double cabinet (as non standard) to replace with glasses rack and microwave cupboard.
- Step 4:
Put together kaboodle cabinets, removed the doors and draws that i sanded all back, primed and repainted with colour of choice (Five Fingers Peninsular). As I was limited with colour and finish options with kaboodle - apologies as I didn't capture this activity with photo.
- Step 5:
Then gutted kitchen from left side of new freestanding oven, fitted new cabinets and fixed the benchtop i had made for this section. Except for doors and draws that were still curing.
- Step 6:
Capped the water pipes and then gutted remainder of kitchen to the right of the oven. Had a delay here as the wall integrity was compromised once revealed. Had to rebrick, add mortar and render.
- Step 7:
Fitted sink to benchtop and majority of cabinets installed but needed a plumber to redirect the water pipes before finalising as they would not have aligned with any sized cabinet. Again, no picture of this step.
- Step 8:
Had old pipes removed, cabinet fitted over drain and redirected pipes completed. Benchtop fitted and sink plumbed in. This all happened sequentially within a 3 hour period.
- Step 9:
Repaired all the walls, sanded and repainted. fitted remaining doors to cabinets and tied in the remaining benchtop.
- Step 10:
Finally had a single piece full-length glass splashback that was sourced and fitted by professionals. Then attached hanging pot rack to roof beams.
