The project:
We added VJ panelling onto our lounge room wall creating a feature wall. This project transformed our lounge room into a cosy and sophisticated room with just a few hours of work.

We used the cut service at our local Bunnings who used their panel saw to cut the vj boards to size. We used a nail gun to attach the boards to the wall, then patched with Selly’s before sanding and painting
- Step 1:
Measure the width and height of the wall to work out how many panels you need. Measure twice. Remove power outlet covers. Give the wall a good clean
- Step 2:
Pick up all the items you need from Bunnings (or have them delivered). Get the VJ boards cut at Bunnings cut shop. Pick out paint colours and have paint made up
- Step 3:
Using a stud finder, find the studs in the wall. This will be where you will be putting the nails in to hold the board. Prior to putting your first board up, make sure you measure and cut out with a hole saw for any electrical outlets. Use liquid nails on the board and press up onto the wall. Once in place, use your nail gun into the studs to secure the board while the liquid nails sets. Continue for all the boards, carefully lining up each groove.
- Step 4:
Patch up the nail holes with sellys. Once dried, sand back flush and smooth with the vj board. Give the vj panelling a wipe over with sugar soap to prep for painting.
- Step 5:
Set up a drop sheet and all equipment ready for painting. Ladder, paint, paint brush, roller set and drop sheet. The board is already primed so you can skip this step. Start by cutting in around the outsides and then also go between the grooves of each panel. Then use the roller to go over the entire wall. Wait the recommended wait time and go in with a second coat.
- Step 6:
Add shelves, wall mounted tv bracket and run wires through the wall for a flush finish. Add back any outlet covers. Decorate shelves and you’re done! Ready to enjoy your beautiful back drop
