The project:
Originally we had stepping stones and rocks with no edging. Very annoying stepping on rocks to try and hang clothes out at night. My wife wanted a crazy pavers path with no rocks. Re- purposed sandstone pavers but had to purchase more and try and blend with old pavers. Gaps to big for grout so used granite decomposite.
- Materials:
Small pavers for edging
Sandstone and concrete pavers for crazy pavers
Mortar to set edging and pavers in place
- Tools:
Concrete cutting disc and AEG power tool to cut pavers
Trojan adjustable square for angles
Trojan square for straight cuts
Craft right tape measure
Saxon metal rake. Shovel and spade to remove old rocks and level ground
Level to get fall correct away from house
- Step 1:
Clear existing rocks and pavers from area
- Step 2:
Measure and string line where edge of path will go ensure gentle fall away from house
- Step 3:
Cement pathway edging in
- Step 4:
Lay large pavers first ensuring gentle fall away from house. Try to place pavers for beat fit around 2 cm apart.
- Step 5:
Once large pavers down then start using small pavers and off cuts to fill in smaller gaps. I cemented the small offcuts into place
- Step 6:
Placed a small amount of cement between and around each pavers about half depth of paver to lock them in
- Step 7:
Filled the remaining gaps with Compressed decomposite granite, similar to that used on som bushwalking trails which should go quite firm over time as gaps to large for grout and pavers too porous
