The project:
I am 23 and still live at home with my parents. I wanted to give back by transforming our dated kitchen. This was my first-ever DIY renovation, and I learnt everything along the way through plenty of trial and error. I relied on Bunningsā Tool Tips, online resources, and the advice of knowledgeable Bunnings team members to build my skills and confidence. The result is a modern, refreshed kitchen that I am extremely proud of! Iām so grateful I could give back to my parents by creating a space they can enjoy every day after everything theyāve done for me.

- Step 1:
- Paint walls with Dulux wash and wear paint (antique white)
- Remove cabinet doors from kitchen.
- Using a hair dryer and metal scraper, remove existing laminate from cabinet fronts.
- After removing laminate lightly sand all cabinet doors to create āteethā for paint to stick to.
- Lightly sand all splashback tiles and benchtops in the kitchen to create a rough surface for the paint to stick too.
- Step 2:
- Thoroughly clean all surfaces (cabinet doors, benchtops and splashback) tiles with sugar soap.
- Dry the surfaces and apply Dulux Renovation Range primer to all surfaces using the 38mm brush and 4mm nap roller.
- Step 3:
- Apply two coats of Dulux renovation range top coat to all surfaces (allowing 8 hours drying time between each coat)
- Dulux renovation range - cabinet doors (Tranquil Retreat)
- Dulux renovation range tiles and benchtops - spashback tiles (Natural White)
- Dulux renovation range tiles and benchtops - benchtops (Stepney)
- Step 4:
- Apply 2 layers of Dulux renovation range satin clear coat over all surfaces (allowing 8 hours drying time between coats
- Step 5:
Move onto the flooring:
- Thoroughly clean the surface of the tiles with Selly's Rapid Mold Killer.
- Apply Dunlop Ardit Feather Finish Floor Compound using a metal trowel.
- Apply Davco floor primer using a roller brush.
- Step 6:
- Lay floor tiles ensuring that all the arrows on the peel and stick tiles are facing the same direction. (Leave a gap around all walls for expansion)
- Step 7:
- Using sellys sillicon, seal up gaps left around tiles for expansion.
- Step 8:
- Attach all cabinet handles
- Return cabinet doors back to their original position
- Step 9:
- Decorate using products from Kmart, Harris Scarfe, and Spotlight.
- I added personalisation by placing a frame with photos of our family pets to add warmth and a homey feel. (also to cover a massive hole I created in the wall. lol)
- Step 10:
- Step back and admire all the hard work from the before and after images.
