The project:
I upgraded a bland outdoor area to be a relaxing and warm lounge area on my outdoor patio. this involved removing old pavers, cutting down trees, concreting, tiling and decorating. The before shot looked like this:
- Materials:
900mm timber look tiles and adhesives
Cafe curtain blinds
paint for fencing
concrete
- Tools:
General garden tools for digging up old pavers - shovels, mallets etc
saws for cutting boxing edges for concreting
all general tiling equipment including tile cutters, spacers etc
level
cordless drills
- Step 1:
My first step was to dig up the old pavers and remove the concrete edging that was previously there.
- Step 2:
Then I had to cut down the tree that was in the way and remove the stump
- Step 3:
Then I had to level everything out and prepare the boxing edges ready for concreting
- Step 4:
Next came the concreting so that there was one full uniform even surface to work on.
- Step 5:
Tiling and grouting the surface to make one whole area came next. The tiles were a timber look effect, which mimicked and indoor surface.
- Step 6:
The gazebo was then secured back into place with lighting added. Time to then add the furnishings and hang the cafe curtains on the gazebo for weather protection when needed.
- Step 7:
Finally, repainting the fence and adding a privacy screen completed the entire look. Adding plants to the privacy screen (climbing mandevillas) also created a great green wall.
