The project:
I upgraded an outdoor dining an BBQ area space in a part of my courtyard. This involved extending the surface area, concreting, tiling, rendering and painting before adding the bbq and furnishings to make it a pleasant area. When I purchased the home, the area looked like this:
- Materials:
concrete
tiles and tiling equipment
cement render
paint
- Tools:
Everyday garden tools (hammers, shovels etc)
cordless drills
all tiling equipment including tile cutters, mallets and tiling tools
- Step 1:
The first step was to extend the concreted area and make it larger. I cut back the artificial turf and created a space for further concreting.
- Step 2:
The area was then boxed up and prepared for concreting to be done.
- Step 3:
The very awful brick wall then needed to be brought back to life. I removed the old tiles and rendered and painted the wall in preparation for the bbq.
- Step 4:
Tiling and grouting the area came next
- Step 5:
Then it was time to add some lighting, furnish the area and add the bbq ready for entertaining.
