Narrow garden bed makeover along fenceline

The project:

I had a narrow space outside the alfresco that did not get enough sunlight, and it was lying barren for some time, till I came across “shade-loving plants” on the Bunnings website. I did a little bit of research and came across the amazing-looking Helleborus which were available at Bunnings. I found the perfect terrazzo-look pots and bowls, polished white pebbles and a mix of shade loving plants for a perfect blend of colour in the bowls. Once the project was completed, it was super satisfying and added a touch of glamour and life to the space!

- Materials:

• 2 x terrazzo-look large pots Terrazzo Look Egg Pot
• 2 x terrazzo-look medium pots Terrazzo Look Moon Bowl
• 2 x terrazzo-look bowls Terrazzo look Bowl
• 8 x bags of white polished pebbles White Polished Pebbles
• Plants:
• 4 x Helleborus (Vibey Velvet, Ice n Roses (Red), Shooting Star, Winter Rose assorted) Hellebores
• 2 x Fuchsia, Fuchsia
• 2 x Impatiens, Impatiens
• 2 x Ferns, Ferns
• 2 x Heuchera (melting fire), Heuchera
• 2 x Cineraria (Silver Dust) Silver Dust
• Cage wire mesh for raised stands Wire mesh and landscaping rocks (reused from garden)
• 3 x brick blocks for edging Paver
• 1x bag Ground soil Garden Soil
• Weed mat Weed Mat
• 5 x Terracotta pot feet Pot feet

- Tools:

• Rake for levelling

- Step 1:

Removed old stones, dead plants and weeds and cleaned up the space.

- Step 2:

Added a bag of soil to level the ground. Used a rake to spread the soil and compact the ground.

- Step 3:

Spread the weed mat and set up the two raised stands (wire mesh), added stones in the wire mesh to create the strong base for the two bowls.

- Step 4:

Planted the mix of plants in the two bowls and the Hellebores in the large and medium pots

- Step 5:

Placed the bowls on the raised stands and the pots in place with pot feets and brick blocks to allow drainage. Placed three brick blocks to create and edge on one side.

- Step 6:

Then finally added the white pebbles to finish the project. Added a few solar lights for a dash of light in the evening!

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @JC2026, it is fantastic to have you with us.

This is a lovely transformation of a difficult narrow space. The terrazzo-look pots, white pebbles and mix of shade-loving plants work beautifully together and have added plenty of colour and interest to an area that was previously quite bare.

The raised bowls and solar lighting are thoughtful touches, and it is great to see how careful plant selection helped make the most of the lower-light conditions. The finished space looks neat, vibrant and very inviting.
