The project:

I transformed a 7 x 3 metre empty shed shell into three practical spaces: a home gym, a storage room and a garden shed. Over six weeks, I designed and completed the project with my 80y/o dad helping along the way, lovingly sharing his skills and teaching me new ones! The renovation created a far more functional space for my family, making it easier for my husband and me to prioritise our health while raising two young children, while also providing organised storage. Most rewarding was the opportunity to spend quality time with my dad and learn from his life experience ❤️

Taubmans Endure Interior Paint – Sphinx Riddle Half
Selleys Liquid Nails Construction Adhesive
Selleys Liquid Nails Mirror, Metal & Glass Adhesive
Gyprock joint compound/base coat products
Metal screws (Zenith range)
Gyprock plasterboard
Timber framing
Reclaimed insulation batts & PPE
Carpet tiles
Plasterboard screws, timber screws and fixing
Paint brushes, rollers, trays and masking tape

- Tools:

Makita & Milwaukee cordless drills
Makita drop mitre saw
Stanley trade knife (Stanley knife)
Drill bit set
Claw hammer

- Step 1:

1. Measured the shed and designed a layout to create three functional spaces.
2. Insulated the external walls to improve comfort and energy efficiency.
3. Built two internal partition walls to form the home gym, storage room and garden shed.
4. Installed insulation in the internal walls and ceiling and installed support beams for ceiling gyprok
5. Completed the electrical rough-in for lighting and power outlets.
6. Installed and finished the gyprock, including setting and sanding and trim.
7. Painted all walls and ceilings and trim
8. Laid carpet tiles throughout the home gym and storage areas, and tiles in the garden shed
9. Installed the mirrors, doors, downlights, power points and other electrical fittings.
10. Completed the finishing touches, including shelving, curtains, storage solutions and gym equipment, transforming the shed into a practical, family-friendly space.

What a brilliant transformation. Turning an empty shed shell into three practical and well-finished spaces is a huge achievement, and the home gym, storage room and garden shed all look well put together and fantastically finished.

The most special part is the time you shared with your dad throughout the project. Learning from his experience while creating something so useful for your family makes this renovation even more meaningful.
