How to fix shower water puddling not draining?

Our shower has two drainage problems: the water does drain from the bathtub shelf back into the bath; and, when the errant water drips onto the bathroom floor it runs past the floor drain and creates a huge puddle in the middle of the floor. Is there an easy fix, including cutting shallow grooves into the tiles as this should be enough. We do have spare replacement slate if needed.

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

Unfortunately, it would be impossible to say if there is an easy fix or not based on the description and images alone, but when the issue is due to the slope of the floor and tiling, I'd say it's unlikely there will be an easy fix. Generally fixing issues with slope in a bathroom will mean stripping the tiles to regrade the screed bed, which will unfortunately almost always mean a full strip out of the bathroom as you will need to replace the waterproof membrane and as a waterproof membrane needs to be installed in one, homogenous layer, generally it can't be patch fixed.

Realistically, the best thing you can do is contact a tiler, or bathroom renovation specialist and have them attend site to inspect and propose a solution and quote on the work. It would definitely need to be physically assessed to determine what is and isn't possible.

Something simple like angled grooves could certainly help, but it would need to be determined in person whether it is possible or not.

A couple of ways you could improve the situation, the expensive way is change the showerscreen to have a return back to the bath so the water is unable to flow around it and onto the floor. The cheap and nasty way is, you will notice that the water level doesn't get that high so, run a bead of clear silicone across from the shower screen to the edge of the bath to divert the water back into the bath, Unfortunately as JacobZ says, it's a big job to fix the existing slope.

If you are going that way, you may want to dry the area and put down two lengths of masking tape outlining where you want the silicone to go then put the silicone down between the two and then remove the tape whilst it is still wet (you don't want to glue the tape in place). This should give you a nice straight run.

Hi @Peterp,

Just thought I'd mention that we have shower floor channels that could work well in this situation. You could cut one to length so it fits neatly between the glass panel and the opposite wall, then silicone it securely in place. Just make sure it's well sealed against the glass panel to prevent water getting through.

It works on the same principle as the silicone bead suggested above, but the channel can provide a neater, more finished look.

Nice idea, I hadn't come across these before, What would be the best way to cut this? I would suggest using the cut edge against the screen as any imperfections would be hidden by the silicone,
