The project:
As a family with two young children, we know you can never have enough storage. We designed this custom TV wall to create the perfect balance of luxury and practicality, giving us plenty of hidden storage without compromising the clean, modern feel of our living space. Featuring built-in cupboards, drawers and ambient LED lighting, it maximises functionality while adding warmth and sophistication. The result is a stylish, clutter-free entertainment unit that keeps everyday essentials neatly out of sight and transforms the room into a beautiful, functional space.

- Step 1:
Site Measure and planning
Complete a detailed site measure to ensure the cabinetry is custom-fitted to the space. Plan the overall layout, including the TV recess and ambient lighting locations, and confirm all dimensions before construction begins. Carefully cut back and remove the existing skirting boards where the new wall is being built to allow the cabinetry to sit flush against the wall and achieve a seamless built-in finish.
- Step 2:
Cut Cabinet Components
Measure, mark and cut all melamine panels to size, including the side panels, tops, bottoms, shelves, dividers, doors and drawer components. As the VJ board is too thin to be used on its own in this project, bond it to MDF using construction adhesive (Liquid Nails) to provide additional strength, stability and durability for the cabinet doors and drawer fronts before
- Step 3:
Construct Base Support Frame
Construct and install a structural timber base frame to provide a solid, level foundation for the cabinetry. Check that the frame is square and level before securely fixing it to the wall and floor where required. The base frame provides the necessary support for the weight of the cabinetry, ensuring long-term strength, stability and a professional finish.
- Step 4:
Assemble Cabinet Carcasses and electrical preparation
Assemble each cabinet carcass using appropriate fixings and joinery methods, ensuring every unit is square before installation. Position and secure the lower cabinets onto the structural base frame, followed by the installation of the side cupboards, overhead cupboards and TV recess cabinetry. Check that all cabinets are level, aligned and securely fixed to create a seamless, structurally sound built-in unit. Create cut-outs for power points, TV cables, soundbar and LED lighting. Conceal cabling within the cabinetry where possible.
- Step 5:
Install Doors
Install the cabinet doors using soft-close hinges and adjust each hinge to achieve consistent spacing, smooth operation and precise alignment. Check that all doors open and close correctly, making any final adjustments.
- Step 6:
Final Finishing
Install the kickboards, overhead infill panel, cover panels and finishing trims to complete the cabinetry. Fill and seal any visible gaps to create a seamless appearance, then inspect all joins and finishes to ensure a clean.
- Step 7:
Painting
Prepare all surfaces by sanding, cleaning and filling any imperfections before painting. Apply one coat of high-quality primer to promote adhesion and provide a uniform base, followed by two coats of premium paint to achieve a smooth, durable and even finish. Allow adequate drying time between coats and complete a final inspection to ensure full coverage.
- Step 8:
Install Handles
Install the handles to the drawer fronts and overhead pull-down cabinets by accurately measuring, marking and drilling each fixing point. Secure all handles in position, ensuring they are aligned consistently and firmly fastened
