Bonsai container for daffodils

The project:

Shallow container of daffodils. When the are finished flowering, can be removed and planted out so they’ll build up the bulbs for next year.

- Materials:

A bonsai container.

Bulbs, either from a packet, and placed in a large punnet, then select the ones that are growing the same, to flower the same time. In the pic below, bulbs at Bunnings about the same size of growth.

- Tools:

Some coir seed raising mix or potting mix.

- Step 1:

Spread the media, and add the bulbs, just sitting in the top. I planted these in April 18. Started flowering on July 6th.

Another photo. The flower on the right could have be removed, but I left it in. The flower in the right lasted two weeks. Now more are in bloom. I’m wondering what other bulbs can grow like this.

That display is continuing to put on a lovely show, @Jamespeter100. Thank you for the update.

A few other compact bulbs like crocuses, grape hyacinths, miniature irises and snowdrops should work well in a shallow container like this.

These are seasonal options though, so you would need to give them a try next year.

Here I removed the failed flower that was on the right. I held the camera lower to get the effect of the height more. The HDR on the iPhone 6 base model is handy, since there is a lot of light coming in through the curtains. Normally this amount of light from outside would cause the curtains to be over exposed, but here it is just right.
