Pool pump cover using Bunnings Workshop instructions

The project:

Before getting new pool equipment installed, I undertook a project to build a weather-proof pool pump cover which would also allow easy access to maintain it. I followed Bunnings Workshop How-To DIY steps online to measure up, adapt and build a frame, cover with polycarbonate roofing and flashing and then paint. It was my first-ever carpentry project and I appreciated all the advice offered by and materials purchased through the Bunnings Team!

I followed the clear helpful instructions posted by MitchellMC from the Bunnings How To Section:

I used Treated Pine helpfully cut for me by the Bunnings Workshop team, with all the loads of great advice offered.

- Tools:

I had some tools at home such as power-drills, measuring tape, protective eye-wear, but purchased additional tools specifically for the project, like:

At Bunnings.

- Step 1:

First step was to disassemble the old cover which was literally hanging together and falling over with any gust of wind.

- Step 2:

After measuring up and adapting the Bunnings How-to instructions, the next step was to visit Bunnings and purchase and have timber cut to size by the Bunnings Team.

- Step 3:

Next was to get the hang of drilling, and using the batten screws to assemble side frames. This took some time and learning! I then was ready to connect the side frames. This is a mid-way picture which shows the frame design and start of the roofing.

- Step 4:

Lastly cut polycarbonate roofing and flashing to size, and attached all the pieces using roofing screws. Then painted the timber, and installed the cover into place over the equipment and it fit perfectly. So far, so good with no leaks! Thanks Bunnings.

What a fantastic first carpentry project. You've done a wonderful job, and it's great to hear that the Bunnings Workshop guide gave you the confidence to tackle it. The finished cover looks neat and practical, while still providing easy access for maintaining the pool equipment.

I especially like that you adapted the plans to suit your own setup. That's what DIY is all about, using a guide as a starting point and making it work for your space.
