The project:
We took a boring white kids’ bedroom and gave it a colourful makeover! To create a sharp two-tone feature, we measured our desired height and used a spirit level and painter’s tape to mark a perfectly straight line around the room. After painting the base colour and allowing it to dry, we repositioned the tape and sealed the edge with the same base colour to hide any bleeding. Once dry, we applied two coats of the contrasting colour. The tape was carefully removed before the final coat fully dried, revealing a beautifully crisp, clean line between the two colours!

- Step 1:
Clear out the room and protect the floor. We had carpet so opted for sheets over the whole ground.
- Step 2:
Using a measuring tape and spirit level, perfectly tape the room where the desired line should be.
- Step 3:
Cut in using the base colour and paint the whole area of colour 1.
- Step 4:
Once completely dry and all coats finished, retape over the line you just made above it and paint the tape in the base (colour 1). This means that if there is bleeding under the tape, then it will be the same colour and you won’t see it.
- Step 5:
Allow to dry so that it fills any gaps in the painters tape, and then switch to the second paint colour. Paint over the top of the painters tape again, and in the next section.
- Step 6:
Before it completely dries, take the tape off so it doesn’t adhere completely to the original paint. And out should come a perfect line.
