The project:
My kitchen nook has been transformed into a warm, functional space designed for connection, creativity and everyday living. Using Bunnings products, including quality hardware, nails and my trusty Ryobi electric drill, I created a custom seating area that makes the most of an unused corner. The goal was to soften and elevate the room with natural textures, timber tones and a cosy organic modern feel. This nook is now a place for family breakfasts, coffee moments, homework, and conversations, turning an overlooked kitchen corner space into a beautiful, practical feature that brings everyone together.

Step-by-step: Creating my custom kitchen nook
- I measured the unused kitchen corner to plan a custom nook that would maximise the space while keeping the room open and functional.
- I purchased materials from Bunnings, including treated pine/sawn timber for the frame, nails, and other hardware needed for construction. I used my Ryobi electric drill to assemble the structure securely.
- I built a strong timber frame to the measurements of the space, ensuring it was level, stable and able to support everyday family use.
- I placed IKEA trundle units underneath as the base, creating hidden storage while adding a practical, space-saving solution.
- I cut and fitted a timber top using SpecRite timber decking boards, securing them firmly to create a durable, natural-looking seat.
- I sanded the timber edges, softened the finish and styled the nook with cushions, creating a warm organic modern look.
The finished nook has transformed an unused kitchen corner into a beautiful family space for meals, homework, coffee and connection.
