The project:
We aimed to update a tired, wooden deck with modern, durable and attractive material. We selected Ekodeck Flame Fighter Snow Gum.
- Materials:
All the materials we used were purchased from Bunnings:
- Ekodeck Flame fighter Decking Snow Gum 137x 23 x 5400mm
- Ekodeck Quick fix packs x 2
- Cleats
- Nichigo G-Tape: Joist and Bearer Protection
- Storm Threshold Access Ramp
- Dulux paint
- Bondall Mrine Grade Varnish
- H3 timber 140 x 45mm - 4.8m and 3.6m
- Wedges
- Ryobi sanding sheets 1/3 10 pcs
- Screws- stainless steel 10gx65mm, -batten 14g x150mm
- Tools:
- AEG drill
- Makita drop saw
- Makita Circular saw
- Ryobi Sander
- Ryobi Multi Tool
- Rubber mallet
- Screwdriver
- Stanley Spirit Level
- Step 1:
Calculated the area of the deck and purchased the Ekodeck and fittings from Bunnings.
- Step 2:
Allowed the boards to acclimatise to our site
- Step 3:
Working from the edge of the porch, back to the house, we removed the old boards in sections, which allowed access to the house and work area during construction
- Step 4:
Bearers and joists were cleaned, replaced as needed, new cleats and joist and bearer tape installed
- Step 5:
Installation of the new boards continued until the flat section of the deck was completed
- Step 6:
Commenced work on the ramp. To enable mobility access, we installed a threshold access ramp
- Step 7:
Painted existing posts
- Step 8:
Replaced handrails with H3 pine and finished with Marine Varnish
- Step 9:
We had many questions during the construction, and they were all answered helpfully by Bunnings Bellambi staff and Ekodeck Customer Service.
