Wooden heavy coffee table

The project:

I knew the vision I wanted, was for a rustic chunky coffee table but these furniture pieces in the shops were beyond my budget. I found the 30kg piece of wood on marketplace which needed some TLC. My level of DIY is low, so it involved several trips to Bunnings. Any excuse for a trip to Bunnings though!

- Step 1:

Using the Ryobi belt sander with a course grit I set to work in removing the indents and tool markings.

- Step 2:

Next I used the Ryobi palm sander, starting with a course grit sander followed by a fine grit to smooth the wood on top and around the edge.

- Step 3:

The wood putty was then used to fill the holes on top.

- Step 4:

I attached the 3 gold legs using timber screws

- Step 5:

I rubbed grape seed oil over the wood which gave the natural look I wanted.

- Step 6:

Finally I used the fine paint brushes and painted the wood filled holes with gold paint.

What a beautiful coffee table! It's amazing what you were able to create from a Marketplace find, and I love that you stayed true to the natural character of the timber. The gold-filled cracks sound like a particularly unique detail.

If possible, would you mind uploading a few higher-quality photos? The current images are a little low resolution, so it's difficult to fully appreciate the amount of effort you've put into the restoration, especially the gold detailing in the filled cracks. I'd love to get a better look, and I'm sure our members would too.
