How to fix leaking pipes under the sink?

Hello community!

I’ve noticed a leak from the pipes under the kitchen sink, situated at the top where the black o-ring is. It’s created a puddle of water in the cabinet. Any advice on how to stop the leak? Hoping this is a simple DIY fix.

Please note that plumbing work must be carried out by a licenced plumber for safety and compliance reasons. If you are unsure what is considered plumbing work, I'd suggest you contact your local building authority for guidance.

You'll note from this discussion that oftentimes the black washer is supposed to be on the top of the waste, however this is dependent on the type of waste connection you have.
