Bespoke hallway console using upcycled bookshelf

The project:

Transformed a very basic three tier lozenge book shelf, which had simply become everyone’s dumping ground, in to a bespoke closed-door slimline hallway console.

- Tools:

• drill
• multi tool sanding pad

- Step 1:

Using the circular saw, cut down the dedth of the lozenge into a more slimline profile. Turning the fully rounded edge in to a semi-rounded shape. Reattached the vertical legs for stability.

- Step 2:

Using Liquid Nails as the adhesive, wrap the fluted wood panels around the sides of the unit, and over the MDF board. Cut the MDF board down to the right size to create doors. Attach hinges to the doors and secure to the body of the unit.

- Step 3:

Sand down all area that will be painted - using multitool sanding pad and the manual block. Paint the unit with two coats and allow to dry in between. Attach the handle and style.

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is wonderful to have you with us.

This is a really clever way to turn an underused bookshelf into something practical and much more aesthetically pleasing. Cutting down the depth, adding doors and wrapping the unit in fluted panels has created a beautiful slimline console with useful, concealed storage.

The curved handles and painted finish bring everything together nicely. Thanks for sharing your project with the Bunnings Workshop community.
