Laundry renovation with barn door and bench

The project:

With a tight budget we got it done for under $900. With no space for a dishwasher in the kitchen we decided to open up the adjacent laundry adding a barn door and dishwasher into the laundry.
We also added a dryer, sorting bench and a lick of paint. Hardest part was plumbing both washing machine and laundry to the one tap.
Budget - Barn door $250, Paint $60, Bench top + brackets $140, Dishwasher = free (second hand), Dryer $300, Plumbing $100.

- Materials:

Barn door mounting kit, paint white/ green, new handles, 4 x 90deg brackets to mount bench, bench top, screws, Dishwasher and tap fittings

- Tools:

Drill, Wood saw, Hole saw, Pipe wrench

- Step 1:

• 1. Remove old door and hang on bar door mounts
• 2. Plumbing of dishwasher/washing machine
• 3. Attach bench and drill holes for drainage
• 4. Mount dryer
• Paint cupboards + new handles

This is a practical renovation that makes good use of a small space. Adding the dishwasher to the laundry, replacing the swing door with a barn door and installing a sorting bench has clearly improved the room’s functionality without needing a major rebuild.

The fresh paint, new handles and wall-mounted dryer also help the space feel much more organised. Completing it all for under $900 is a great result.
