Upcycled cane and Pine coffee tables

The project:

This project came about after finding two coffee tables at the Reedy Creek tip shop..One $15 the other $10...the old cane bases were a little tired and the tops needed some TLC

- Materials:

Materials used and sourced from Bunnings Tweed Heads..darker wood stain for cane ..paint stripper for the top..lots of sanding back to raw wood ..a dremel helped with leaf inlay sanding then 3 coats of black wood stain on pine...Found an old black glass table top that fitted perfectly on the smaller table

- Tools:

Dremel ..sandpaper..mouse sander…lint free cloths ..wood stain x 2..paint stripper..

- Step 1:

Washed down tables...light sand on base and full heavy paint stripper for top..Dremel leaf design with sanding tool...wood stained cane base…woodstain black on top final step was bunnings bees wax for a smooth finish..glass table top for smaller project

Many thanks for sharing your cane and pine coffee table upcycle project.

These were great finds, and you’ve done a nice job bringing both tables back to life. The darker stain looks lovely on the cane bases and the leaf detail in the larger tabletop is so unique and artistic. Finding a glass top that fitted the smaller one was very lucky because it matches the base so well.
