The project:
My tiny laundry was cluttered, cramped and completely impractical, so I gave it a budget-friendly makeover! Using a beautiful timber benchtop from Bunnings, a fresh coat of paint, and custom pine shelves I built and stained myself, I transformed the space into something both functional and stylish. Finished with black brackets and black accessories for a modern touch, it’s now a laundry I genuinely enjoy using. Every inch works harder, there’s a place for everything, and doing the washing no longer feels like a chore. Proof that a small space can make a big impact!

- Timber benchtop, custom cut to size
- Adjustable black steel bench legs
- Pine panels for custom floating shelves
- Timber wood stain to finish the shelves
- Black L-shaped shelf brackets
- Dulux Wash&Wear Paint – Antique White USA (2 coats)
- Pine trim moulding to frame the existing doorway
- Timber filler (putty) to fill the old door lock opening
- Exterior dryer vent kit to vent hot air outdoors

- Step 1:
Removed the washing machine, dryer and all contents, then thoroughly cleaned and decluttered the laundry.
Sugar washed all walls using Selleys Sugar Soap to prepare the surfaces for painting.
Filled existing holes, cracks and gaps with filler, then sanded smooth for a professional finish.
Applied painter’s tape to protect trims, edges and fixtures before painting.
Painted the entire laundry with two coats of Dulux Wash&Wear Antique White USA.
- Step 2:
Removed the old door lock, filled the opening with timber filler and installed added
timber trim around the existing rear doorway for a cleaner, more finished look.
- Step 3:
Built custom pine floating shelves, stained them and mounted them using black L-shaped brackets.
Installed an exterior dryer vent system through the back door so hot air is vented outside.
- Step 4:
Styled the space with practical storage and decorative accessories to create a functional, modern laundry.
