Built-in gaming desk for loungeroom nook

The project:

I built my partners dream gaming desk into the nook in our lounge room. I built this in as a permanent fixture, complete redesigning the space.

paint brush, paint tray and roller (I’ve had these products so long I couldn’t tell you what they were but I know I got them at Bunnings)

Masking tape

Hole filling paste

- Tools:

drill

Bit driver

Timber drill bits

Saw

Hammer

Sand paper

Paint scraper

Measuring tape and straight edge, ruler or square

- Step 1:

1- measured the space, planed design, selected the products I needed using the Bunnings app, picked up everything I needed to get started

2- cleared out the space, cleaned the walls with sugar soap, filled in all holes and sanded before painting

3- masked all edges, cut in with paint in all corners, edges and between slats. Pained 2 coats of paint, allowing enough drying time between coats.

4- cut to length, pre drilled holes and fixed timber frame to walls

5- cut boards to length, in the first board against the wall, cut semicircle to allow for screen mounting and cable pass through. Fixed into place. Cut all boards to length and fit into place.

6- used same timber as framing to fix to the bottom of the desk top to create support and prevent movement to create flat desk surface

7- cleaned up work area

8- set up gaming pc and screens, hung lights and signs.

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

What a fantastic use of the lounge room nook. It looks like a great spot to settle in for a long gaming session, with plenty of desk space, a clean multi-screen setup and some colourful lighting to set the mood.

The built-in design makes the whole area feel intentional rather than like a desk has simply been squeezed into the corner. I also like the practical touches, especially the cable pass-through, extra framing and support beneath the desktop, which will certainly make it nice and sturdy.

I’m sure your partner is thrilled with their new gaming space.
