The project:
my blind in my study broke and to match the rest of the house it’s was not cheap to get a new one. I hardly used the blind so decided to put vinyl up. I then became fixated and did some other windows. (Renter friendly I used the static window vinyl easy to remove than the adhesive window vinyl)
- Materials:
window vinyl
- Tools:
Window vinyl spray (or just slightly soapy water in a spray bottle) found in same area as the window vinyl
Scraper to push out bubbles (found in the same area as the window vinyl)
Painters tape to hold it on at the beginning
Stanley knife (small 10cm blade one I have to Trojan branded one.)
Ruler - I used a metal one that is a 40cm ruler
- Step 1:
I deep cleaned the windows and window tracks
- Step 2:
measured and cut the vinyl just slightly oversized.
- Step 3:
peeled off the backing on the vinyl, sprayed with the vinyl soapy spray onto the vinyl and the window.
- Step 4:
placed vinyl on the window I found it easier to line up the top and 1 side directly onto the window so you will only need to trim the bottom and 1 side. When I have lined it up I use painters tape just to keep it on in the beginig.
- Step 5:
I then pushed out all the bubbles with the scraper working from the middle out.
- Step 6:
I then trimmed off the excess with a Stanley knife making sure I had a new blade. I sometimes use a ruler also to stop accidentally slipping the blade in the wrong direction.
- Step 7:
once it’s all trimmed I go over again with the scraper to get the last of the soapy water out and to make sure the edges are down.
Tip if you have adhesive vinyl on your windows already like I did use a clothes steamer to peel it off. The heat melts the glue and warms the plastic to be able to take it off in large chunks I tried a heat gun but the steamer works better. And I used de solve it spray to get the residue off with a razor blade scraper. That stuff is amazing I use it to get stickers off things that I just brought you know the ones that half come off and rips and nothing seems to work to get the darn thing off well de solve it does the trick when you get to the paper part of the sticker.
