Garden bench using recycled timber

The project:

I needed a garden bench. It is made from old and new material

- Materials:

I had left over tiles, two old fence posts and some painted timber. Not enough so I went to bunnings and got some more timber (posts and rails, screws, liquid nails, corner brackets, a screen, hanging pots, hooks, plants and paint. A week later I had my bench.

- Tools:

makita drill, driver and sander.

- Step 1:

I cut and joined old timber to make the workbench top.
made the front legs with old posts and the back with new timber matching the decorative feature from the old fence posts into the new timber to make the feet . I wanted to block the afternoon sun so added slats on the angle to create afternoon shade. Screwed in all crossmembers across the back and under the bench . Added a shelf . Used liquid nails and old tiles to add some decorative feature. Braced the frame and added brackets underneath the front of the bench for extra support. Put the decorative screen on the back. Added gate handles to tall posts so I could hang the hanging baskets from and planted up the hanging baskets with some postulates from the garden centre. Went to the paint centre and got a tin of paint and some lacquer. Painted the posts and frame and lacquered the shelf.

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

What a practical and creative use of leftover materials. The mix of recycled fence posts, timber and tiles gives the bench plenty of strength and character.

I really like that you took the time to replicate those little decorative touches from the recycled posts on to the new ones. Those little bits are what takes a basic project to the next level and really shows the craftsmanship you put in.
