Upcycled 1980’s brown timber wall unit

The project:

We had to get rid of this old corner wall unit for my in-laws, but as it was made of timber I thought it would be a shame to throw it away. I decided to keep it and turn it into a bookshelf for my daughter. I separated the section of the unit I wanted to refurbish, removed the door handles and added a pine trim around the top perimeter. Then I sanded the entire unit, applied 2 coats of undercoat and then 3 coats of white semi gloss paint. Once dry I installed new brushed brass door knobs.

Sand paper

Dulux 1 step primer/undercoat

- Step 1:

After separating the corner unit, I added a pine trim around the top perimeter and removed the door handles.

- Step 2:

Lightly sanded the entire unit.

- Step 3:

Applied 2 coats of undercoat.

- Step 4:

Applied 3 coats of white semi gloss paint.

- Step 5:

Installed 2 new brushed brass door knobs.

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

It's always fantastic to see furniture being saved, repaired, renewed and put back into service, rather than ending up in the scrap heap. It's admirable that while the whole unit wasn't going to suit, at least you saved part of it.

You've done a fantastic job stripping it back, adding trim, sanding, repainting and adding new hardware. It looks clean and ready for its new chapter.
