What cordless nail gun for building timber fence?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is wonderful to have you with us.

Unfortunately, there isn't really a budget battery nail gun that is suitable for this type of work. Most battery nail guns on the cheaper end are either framing nailers or brad nailers. A framing nailer fires heavy structural nails which if used would split the palings, and a brad nailer fires very small finish nails which would not have the holding capacity you need.

Fencers typically use coil nailers for installing palings. They fire ring shank coil nails, which are the only nails I would recommend for attaching timber palings. The only battery powered coil nailer that I am aware of is the

Most fencers will use a pneumatic coil nailer, which needs to be attached to an air compressor. If you were happy to go with this option, the

to attach your palings once you are at that stage of the job. If you are set on using a coil nailer, this is likely the most economical option.

Alternatively, using screws to attach your palings is often a better choice if you aren't planning to do a lot of fencing in the future as you can simply use a drill, impact driver or combination of the two. These tools are much more varied in their applications and much more practical to own if you are not employed in the construction industry. It will be a bit slower than using a coil nailer, but in all honesty, I have never met someone who isn't a builder or fencer for a living that really needs to own a coil nailer.
