The project:
After my brother helped set three reclaimed timber posts with Bastion Post Mix Concrete, I completed the rest of this DIY fire pit area myself in the Queensland heat. The posts were hidden between the fence and garden beds, so it was great to give them a new purpose. I dug the area deeper for safety, added weed mat, gravel, edging, and solar party lights, then refreshed the surrounding garden with Richgro Hardwood Mulch. The fire pit was a birthday gift from a friend, making the project even more special. I'm thrilled with the result.

- Step 1:
1: My brother helped me set the three posts using Bastion Post Mix Concrete.
2: I decided to dig the area deeper than originally planned to minimise any potential trip hazards. I moved all the surplus soil before installing Saxon Garden Edging with plenty of pegs to create a neat, defined border that's easy to mow and whipper-snip against.
3: Once the grass and soil had been removed, I levelled the area and laid Quick Pillar Weed Mat, securing it with landscape pins.
4: I then spread a layer of rough gravel, lightly watered it, and compacted it using a Trojan Tamper to create a firm, stable surface.
5: I ran the Lytworx Solar Warm White LED Party Lights between the three posts.
6: I used a spare length of thick rope that happened to be exactly the right size. I ran it around the edge of the fire pit area, giving it a softer, safer border.
7: Once the project was complete, I finished off the surrounding garden beds with a thorough tidy-up and a fresh layer of Richgro Hardwood Mulch.
