The project:
Picked up a basic metal side table off marketplace for $10, and wanted to give it a bespoke feel for our home with a crazy pave feature.

- Step 1:
Using protective gloves, remove the plastic click together backing on the floor tiles. Pull the individual stones from the mesh backing.
- Step 2:
Lay the stone pavers down on the inside of the metal table top, in a random / organic pattern, unlike traditional mosaic. Make sure the stones are as close together as possible. Once you’re happy with the placement, take a picture for reference.
NOTE: if the surface is completely smooth, you may need to sand down the surface first.
- Step 3:
Remove 1/4 of the stones at a time, and lay down your adhesive on the metal surface using a notched trowel. I used some leftover Resaflex tile adhesive, which was the ideal choice for my project given the movement of the metal surface.
- Step 4:
Add grout to fill the gaps, following the instructions for application. Using a damp sponge or cloth to wipe up excess after 5-10mins and let the grout cure overnight. Add a clear matt/gloss sealant or vanish dependant on whether it’s for indoor or outdoor use.
