Best stain or oil for Specrite Brown Acacia panel?

Hi all, I'm cutting a SpecRite Brown Acacia Multi Use Panel down to size. The panel comes pre-oiled, so the cut edges are coming up paler and rawer than the finished top. I'd like to seal the fresh edges and get them as close as possible in colour to the existing top surface.

What oil or stain would you recommend to best match the factory finish? Is a clear penetrating oil (e.g. Feast Watson Danish Oil) enough to bring the raw acacia back to that warm brown, or would I need a lightly tinted product to match the darker top?

Hi @alen,

Our supplier has informed us that the Acacia Brown laminated panels are finished during the manufacturing process using an oil which is foodsafe. There is no reference to a stain being used.

Some suitable food-safe options available at Bunnings include:

• Cabot's Benchtop Timber Finish – A durable, water-based polyurethane that's food-safe once fully cured and ideal for kitchen benchtops.
• Bondall Monocel Timber Bench Top Oil – A tung oil-based finish that is safe for food contact once dry and provides a natural-looking waterproof finish.
• Feast Watson Kitchen Timber Oil – A penetrating oil designed specifically for kitchen timber surfaces that is food-safe once fully dried.
• Gilly's Kitchen Bench Oil – A natural tung oil-based finish that is safe for food contact once dry and provides good water repellency.
• Kaboodle Clear Hardwax Oil – A highly durable hardwax oil made from natural oils and waxes, suitable for sealing kitchen benchtops.

You might like to take an offcut showing the original finish and the cut end to your local store, so our Paint Experts can take a look and help you match it up with available oil/stains in-store.
