The project:
When we bought our home, there had been a budget facelift done, but it was not suited to our style. We also could not afford a full renovation, instead settling for fresh new modern upgrades of the shower head, grout refresh, floor tiles and vanity, with chrome towel rails and hooks.
It was a slow going project, working on the renovations over several months. I learnt a lot, and love the final result.

- Step 1:
Start with shower: Remove outdated details like the ceramic soap dish, two tone mosaic strip and old shower head. Clean all areas of the shower thoroughly and allow time to dry completely.
- Step 2:
Install new showerhead as per instructions. We chose the Flexispray Havana Twin because it included a super lux rainshower head with clear and simple DIY steps to follow. We replaced the ceramic soap dish and mosaic trim with plain 100x 100 gloss white tiles. Fill all gaps and refresh old grout with Dunlop ready to go ultra white. Don’t forget to add a proper wet area sealant.
- Step 3:
For the rest of the bathroom, after we removed the old vanity, we hired a professional to lay our new tiles over the top of the old ones. Updating the old floor grates at the same time, and using a light grey grout.
- Step 4:
I was savvy with my savings where possible. I sold our old mirror, basin and vanity, Then I shopped marketplace for a new vanity, shaving cabinet, basin and stone bench etc collecting pieces over time. I created a mood board of the style/look I was after and had all the measurement/dimensions noted down so that when the perfect pieces popped up I was ready to secure. I ended up buying the basin mixer and towel rail/hooks from Bunnings.
- Step 5:
Once all the final pieces and accessories were installed, I took to refreshing the grout on the white border tiles and fixing/replacing/filing any gaps. I even did a few patch jobs on the walls with Rapid Filler and gave the walls a lick of paint. This helped the whole space feel brand new.
