The project:
I decided to build this completely from scratch because every commercial coop I looked at was way too small, flimsy, and made it impossible to actually maintain properly. I wanted something built to last a lifetime, so I built it myself.I built a housing coop integrated into a massive 1.5m x 1.8m with a total run length of 4.5m. The design allows me to fully walk right into the enclosure, but the real highlight is the custom drop-down side access panel I built into the housing unit. This lets me easily sweep out and clean the entire interior from the outside without any awkward bending. I clad the exterior in precision-lapped Weathertex weatherboards for a clean, modern aesthetic, and lined the floor with heavy-duty Formply so wiping it down is a breeze. I put real pride into every single stud, joint, and fastener to ensure a safe, draft-free, and completely predator-proof home.

- Step 1:
Step 1: Cleared the ground, leveled the site, and constructed the heavy-duty base frame foundation using H4 clear-coated timber.
- Step 2:
Erected the main vertical wall studs and pitched roof rafters using structural H3 treated pine framing.
- Step 3:
Installed the moisture-resistant, heavy-duty Formply flooring sheet inside the main housing coop footprint. Built the nesting box and made the split door
- Step 4:
Installed the cream Trimdeck polycarbonate roofing sheets using hex head roofing screws. Cladded the exterior walls using precision-lapped Weathertex ruff sawn weatherboard panels.l, installed the colour bond roof, and painted the run and
- Step 5:
Constructed the custom drop-down side access panel using the Tee hinges and padlock bolts
- Step 6:
Wrapped the extensive 4.5m run structure with high-tensile aviary wire mesh, securing it tightly with button head screws and heavy-duty staples.
- Step 7:
Completed the final exterior trim installation, installed the auto chicken door and ramp, applied a deluxe surft mist and lined the interior with fresh pine shavings
