How to fix leaking washing machine tap?

Question

I have just unscrewed the hose to my washing machine and although the tap is off there is significant leak. Do I need to replace the tap fitting, and is this and easy enough job to DIY? If you could please advise what parts I will need to purchase. Thank you!

Thank you! If it's plugged into the washing machine it doesn't leak. I assume the washing machine has its own valve, so the leak will not effect the washing machine. I am hoping I can put this repair off for a while as I currently have more pressing matters 😅😅

Please note that plumbing work needs to be completed by a licensed professional for safety and compliance.

If the tap is still leaking even when it's fully turned off, it's most likely that the tap valve (washer) inside the spindle has worn out and needs replacing. The alternative is to replace the entire tap, but that would be a job for a licensed plumber.

Under the blue cap on the tap handle there is likely to be a screw holding the handle in place. After turning off your home's mains water supply, you can remove that screw, take off the handle and then unscrew the spindle from the tap body. The worn tap valve can then be replaced with a new one, such as this
