The project:
I wanted to create a cosy 'dark academia' vibe for my master bedroom. I achieved this look by going with a dark green paint and, to add some interest, a reflective wallpaper.
- Materials:
2in1 undercoat and primer
Dulux wash n wear Low Sheen paint in Highland Green
'Belvedere' wallpaper - bought online at wallpaper trader.com
Wallpaper paste
Dulux Aquanamel water based Low Sheen paint in Natural White
- Tools:
Paintbrush
Roller (12mm nap, I think…)
Painters tape
Sandpaper
- Step 1:
Sand every surface that is to be painted with a fine sandpaper, then wash down with sugar soap.
- Step 2:
Prepped everything to be painted with the 2in1 undercoat and primer paint.
- Step 3:
I taped up my working area
and painted the main colour Highland Green.
Note: the walls took 3 coats of paint, and the ceiling needed 4.
- Step 4:
Next step was to paint the skirting boards, window trims and wardrobe frame with 2 coats of the Dulux Aquanamel in Natural White.
- Step 5:
Final step was to hang the wallpaper. This was by far the trickiest project I have attempted. It took a lot of precision to line up the patterns and edges of the wallpaper.
If you were to look closely you would see my mistakes, but at a general glance it looks great.
