The project:
Starting with a Bunnings Mimosa Burleigh Wooden Gazebo, we set out to create something truely unique functional and cost effective. We fully enclosed and lined the structure, transforming it into a premium outdoor wellness centre complete with sauna, gym equipment, lighting and custom finishes. We wanted a dedicated space that promotes both physical and mental wellbeing without leaving our home. The project allowed us to maximise our outdoor area and build a year round retreat for fitness, relaxation and recovery. What was once a simple gazebo is now a standout.
- Materials:
The starting point was the Bunnings Mimosa 4.27 x 3.67 x 3.23 Burleigh Wooden Gazebo. From here we purchased all sorts of materials from Bunnings to complete this work of art!! Learning lots through the process!
- Tools:
Built from Ryobi gear from Bunnings. All handled the job well.
- Step 1:
Step One: site preparation:
- Clear all existing grass and excavate to take concrete,
- Excavate for services, water, electrical, stormwater and surface drainage,
- Install inground services water, electrical, stormwater and surface drainage,
- Excavate footings and thickenings, and
- Lay plastic and mesh ready for concrete.
- Step 2:
Step Two: Place Concrete:
- Step 3:
Step Three: Prepare for Gazebo Installation:
- Prepaint all Gazebo components including posts, beams, trusses,
- Install Termite Protection and
- Waterproof slab edges.
- Step 4:
Step Four: Build Gazebo:
(Note prior to installing the roofing, I lined underside of roof and add insulation)
- Step 5:
Step Five: Build Infills to walls of Gazebo including:
- Framing Walls,
- Adding cyclone straps, tie-down bolts etc.
- Rewaterproofing and
- Sarking.
(Note lining left out central of ceiling to wire for lights, additional nogging placed to take wall sheeting which is a prefinished plastic not-plaster, so was more flexible)
- Step 6:
Step Six: Install Glass Sliding Door:
- Step 7:
Step Seven: External Linings and Persepex to close in ends of trusses:
- Also pose for photo with wife's toolbelt after breaking mine!
(Note to add guttering I had to increase the depth of the sides of the gazebo as they were not long enough to take standard guttering)
- Step 8:
Step Eight: Install Guttering and connect to stormwater:

Step Nine: Insulate and Line Internal Walls and finish
Ceilings:

Step Ten: Final Fitoff:
- Finish lining walls,
- Install trims,
- Finish painting,
- Final Fit Electrical,
- Install Timber Hybrid Flooring,
- Install curtain,
- Place in Sauna, gym equipment and
- Enjoy!!!
