The project:
This DIY project transformed a dark, cramped coffee nook into a bright, open dining space. The layout was reconfigured by opening up a wall, rebuilding a new dividing wall for the bedroom area, and applying fresh white paint to maximize natural light and space
- Materials:
Timber/Wood (from Bunnings)
White paint (from Bunnings)
Plasterboard / Drywall
Joint compound and joint tape
Screws and fixings
- Tools:
Step ladder
Paint roller and brushes
Hand tools (hammer, screwdriver, utility knife)
Plastering trowel and putty knife
Safety gear
- Step 1:
1. Cleared the original dark coffee corner.
2. Demolished sections of the old wall to open up the layout.
3. Framed a new wall structure using timber from Bunnings to divide the dining area from the bedrooms.
4. Attached plasterboard panels to the new wooden framework.
5. Applied joint tape and compound to seal seams and screw holes.
6. Sanded the plastered surfaces smooth.
7. Prepared the room with drop cloths and taped edges.
8. Painted the walls and new structure using white paint from Bunnings.
9. Styled the newly brightened open dining area with furniture and decor.
10. Cleaned up the workspace to finish the renovation
