Faux timber beam using foam

The project:

I have always loved the barn look and timber frame

- Materials:

, bastion blue installation, brown acrylic paint, upholstery pins

- Tools:

Ryobi jigsaw, Stanley knife, nails, wire brush

- Step 1:

measure the area for the beam

- Step 2:

cut the foam

- Step 3:

made groves, dents and added different colours of brown paints, stuck in pins

- Step 4:

put it on ceiling with two nails

This is a clever way to achieve the look of a solid timber beam without the weight or expense of using real timber. The texture and colour variation you've created really help sell the effect, and the decorative pins are a nice finishing touch that suits the barn-style aesthetic.

Were there any lessons you learnt along the way or tips you'd share with other members thinking about trying a faux beam like this? I'm sure they'd also be interested to know how the beam has held up since installation and whether you'd do anything differently next time.
